Determining Windows XP Version from System Properties via the Start Menu

1. Click the Start button.
   Result: Start Menu appears (see Figure 1).

2. Right click My Computer and click Properties as indicated in Figure 1.
   Result: The System Properties window appears (see Figure 2).

3. You can now determine the Version (Service Pack 1, Service Pack 2 or Service Pack 3) from the System Properties window as seen in Figure 2.

Determining Windows XP Version from System Properties via the Control Panel

1. Click the Start button.
2. Select Control Panel in the Start Menu.
3. If you see Pick a Category, select Performance and Maintenance. Otherwise, select System from the Control Panel icons list (and skip the following step).
4. Under Pick a Control Panel Icon select System.
5. You can now determine the Version (Service Pack 1, Service Pack 2 or Service Pack 3) from the System Properties window as seen in Figure 2.
