Support the Libraries

Making a Donation to the USC Libraries

We welcome donations of books, journals, archives and cash to support the university's mission of teaching and research.

In Kind Contributions

We gladly accept gifts of books, serials and other materials that supplement the USC Libraries' collections. Contact the in-kind gifts liaison, Amy Ciccone, at aciccone@usc.edu or (213) 740-1958 for more information.

Archives & Manuscripts

USC actively collects archives and primary source materials in many subjects, especially those that document the history of Southern California. Please contact Special Collections to discuss your archival collection and a possible donation to the university.

Gift and Donation Policy

The USC Libraries welcome donations of books and other materials that enhance the collections and support the instructional and research mission of the University. USC’s collections have benefited from many significant past gifts; we at USC encourage you to consider making a donation to the University to continue this rich tradition.

It is the responsibility of the library collection liaison, in consultation with subject selectors, to review donations and/or offers to donate and make selection decisions based on the USC Libraries’ collection development policy. In cases when it is necessary to decline a gift, alternative libraries will be suggested whenever possible.

Gifts are accepted with the understanding that they become the property of the University of Southern California upon receipt, and that the USC Libraries will make all necessary decisions as to their retention, location, cataloging treatment, and other considerations relating to their use and disposition. Those items that are not needed in the library may be exchanged with other libraries, or otherwise used for the University’s benefit, in accordance with established procedures.

Donations of money to purchase books, provide access to materials and preserve library resources are also welcome. Monetary gifts are accepted and acknowledged by the libraries' advancement team, which arranges for the money to be credited to the appropriate library fund.

The following limitations are placed on the acceptance of gifts:

  • The appraisal of a gift to the USC Libraries is the responsibility of the donor, university employees are not legally permitted to appraise gifts.
  • Gifts offered with conditions attached (other than returning items to donor if not needed) require prior approval from the library collection liaison.

Anyone interested in making a gift to the USC Libraries should contact Stephanie Foreman.
