“...normally found with uncoloured paltes...finely illustrated flora of Piedmont. Pritzel describes the work in coloured state as ‘rarissime’. The plates are by Francesco Peyrolery, and engraved by his son Pietro. ‘The botanical garden at Torino holds a collection of about 7500 paintings and drawings of lants, bound in 65 folio volumes. This collection is often cited by Allioni and Colla and contains many of the originals of the illustrations of the works by these authors, inparticula of Allioni’s Flora pedemontana. The main artists are: 1741-1766 Francesco Peyrolery, from Viù (Piedmont); Pietro Peyrolery’s drawings from the Flora pedemontana are also probablly incorporated.’ (Stafleu) Allioni was an Italian physician and professor of botany at the University of Turin; he was also director of their natural history collections.” — Watson catalogue 11 (2001)
