A beautifully produced book of the Golden Age of Viennese natural history book production, which was patronized by the house of Hapsburg. One of the most famous works on shells. The Empress of Austria, Maria Theresia had a Museum in Vienna containing a large collection of shells. She instructed born to publish the above work on the imperial collection in a sumptuous volume.
