NOTES: First edition of this history
of one of the most celebrated and important natural history museums and
botanic gardens in the world; it was founded in 1635 by Louis XIII. The
author gives a detailed history of the museum; a descriptive list of the
curators and foreign correspondents in 1822; accounts of the gardens,
botanical school, and green houses; and the various departments within
the museum including the cabinets of geology, mineralogy, mammals, birds,
etc. Deleuze, librarian of the Museum, also provides a bio-bibliographical
list of teachers and voyagers connected with the Museum.
