The
following fields are currently used in the LACBD. Some fields are hyperlinked.
The
following data elements are searchable in the Author field:
Author indicates
the individual responsible for creating the original document. Photographers
and Illustrators are included in this field, with "Photographer" or "Illustrator"
following the name.
Corporate
Author indicates the organization responsible for the creation of the
original document.
Editor
refers to the individual responsible for editing the original document.
Compilers are included in this field, with the "compiler" following the
name.
Series editor
refers to the individual responsible for editing a book series.
Translators
refers to the individual responsible for translation of a document.
Cartographer
refers to the individual responsible for the creation of a map, if identified.
The
book source field provides the bibliographic information about the book
in which a chapter or other excerpt is located.
The
date refers to the year in which an original document was published. The
date of a journal or magazine citation will include the month with the
year of publication. Day of month will be included if given.
This
field identifies revisions, updates, and numeric editions of a book or
map. Numeric editions are in the format 2nd, 3rd, etc.
The
issue number for magazine or journal article citation.
The
original source identification number for each legacy citation is included
with a bibliographic record. The following fields are included:
Nunis
indicates the citation number is from the Nunis bibliography.
Rudd
indicates the citation number is from the Rudd bibliography.
Place
of publication indicates the city where a document is published. This field
appears in book, report, map, theses and conference records, but not in
journal records.
The
publisher field contains the name of the publisher. This field appears
in book, report, map, theses and conference records, but not in journal
records.
This
refers to scale measurements for maps, when available.
The
notes field contains additional information that follows the bibliographic
citation, for example, "Includes bibliography. Illustrations: Maps."
Pagination
indicates the number of pages in a book that is cited, for example "456
pp OR refers to the page range for cited journal articles, for example,
"1442-1449".
This
field identifies the general type of document the record represents. The
complex search provides a pull down menu allowing you to limit your search
to a reference type, such as journal article. The following reference types
included in the bibliographic database:
book
book section
edited book
journal article
thesis
map
conference
report
The
series field identifies the title of a series.
The
thesis type refers to the type of thesis as listed in the original citation,
for example, "Project (M.A.)"
The
following data elements are searchable in the title field:
Journal Article
refers to the title of an article in a journal.
Journal Article
refers to the title of an article in a journal.
Journal Title
field lists the title of a journal for a journal article citation.
Journal Article
refers to the title of an article in a journal.
Series title
provides the title of a monographic series.
Title
provides the title of the document. For chapters, the title refers to the
name of the chapter, not the name of the book.
Volume
number refers to the volume number for a magazine or journal citation or
to the volume number of a book published in multiple volumes.
Number of
volumes refers to the number of volumes in a set, for example, "2 vols."
