Description: In the Griffith Park Archives are photographs, maps, and historical material about Griffith Park and its present-day attractions: Griffith Observatory, Los Angeles Zoo, Travel Town Museum, Greek Theatre, and Autry Museum of Western Heritage. The holdings also cover the varied past of the park, which includes the Sketchley Ostrich Farm of the 1890s; the construction of the original Los Angeles Zoo, Griffith Observatory, and golf clubhouse by the Works Progress Administration (WPA) in the 1930s; the Civilian Conservation Corps camps for veterans of World War I (1934-1936) and young people (1938-1941); the prisoner-of-war encampment that existed during World War II; and Roger Young Village, a post-World War II low-income temporary housing project of some thirteen hundred Quonset huts.
