Description: Many of the photographs and negatives in the collections of the Center for Photojournalism and Visual History depict people, places, and events in Southern California. The three largest collections consist of a half-million images taken since 1943 by Jack Davis, a freelance photographer who has worked principally in Los Angeles; a half-million images taken since 1948 by Howard Moorehead, a Los Angeles-based commercial, entertainment, and travel photographer; and three hundred thousand images of the African American community in Los Angeles taken by Harry Adams, who did free-lance editorial work for Black newspapers and other clients between 1955 and 1988. Other holdings include one hundred thousand photographs of San Fernando Valley residents and sports activities; five hundred photographs of the United Farm Workers and their activities; and the Bob Douglas Collection, which consists of fifty-five prints of great jazz musicians, such as Billie Holiday, Charlie Parker, and Dizzy Gillespie, from the 1940s to the 1980s.
