Archive and Collections

Description: Established in 1984 through a partnership between the County of Los Angeles and the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association, the Edmund D. Edelman Hollywood Bowl Museum is located on the grounds of the world-famous Hollywood Bowl, an icon of American musical culture. The museum presents exhibitions, provides opportunities for the musical education of audiences of all ages, develops programs to meet the musical and artistic needs of the diverse ethnic and cultural communities of the Los Angeles region, and supports the activities of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association. The museum’s archival holdings document the history of the Hollywood Bowl. These holdings include programs, posters, books, films, videos, photographs, promotional materials, postcards, correspondence, and ephemera. A computer database indexing the musical programs at the Hollywood Bowl since 1922 as well as the many artists and conductors who have appeared on its stage over the years is available in the GTE Museum Resource Center. The Hollywood Bowl Museum works closely with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Archives, which collects programs, recordings, ephemera, and institutional records pertaining to the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
