Archive and Collections
Description: The Arcadia Historical Museum, founded in 1988, focuses on the history of
Arcadia—from Rancho Santa Anita, an enormous land grant given to the San
Gabriel Mission by the king of Spain in 1771, to the post-World War II boom
that led to the phenomenal growth of the city in the 1940s and 1950s. In the
museum’s small but growing collection are artifacts from E. J. “Lucky” Baldwin, who purchased part of Rancho Santa Anita in 1875 and served as the first mayor of Arcadia after the city was incorporated in 1903, and from his second daughter, Anita Baldwin.
Additionally, the collection contains artifacts, photographs, textiles and ephemera related to Arcadia’s history and relation to the San Gabriel Valley. The Museum features a timeline of the City's history and is in partnership with the Arcadia Public Library and the Arcadia History Collection.
