Archive and Collections

Description: Denison Library’s Special Collections are extensive and varied, ranging from classical literature to Californiana. They include the Scripps College Archives, which provide a significant record for the study of the college since its inception in 1926 and for the history of women’s education in general. In addition to official publications of the college and the student body, the archives contain publications by faculty and alumnae, student newspapers, senior theses, construction records, architectural drawings and blueprints, unpublished papers from faculty and trustees, records of the development of the college’s curriculum, photographs, scrapbooks, and other ephemera which document the history of Scripps College and its diverse students, faculty, staff, and trustees, many of whom were or are Los Angeles residents. The Scripps College Archives also preserve the personal and business papers of the college’s founder, the newspaper publisher and philanthropist Ellen Browning Scripps (1836–1932).
