USC has long-standing
strengths and historical commitments to international studies, providing
a sound intellectual foundation for the Boeckmann Collection and expanded
Latin American, Iberian, and Chicano/Latino holdings. Many academic
departments and professional schools have faculty with primary or secondary
interests in Spain, Portugal, Latin America or in matters relating to
their spheres of influence in the U.S., Asia, and Africa. Related university
resources include the Spanish Cultural Resource Center, sponsored by
the Consulate of Spain, providing curriculum materials for primary and
secondary teachers and for the Latino Teacher Project of the School
of Education; the International Business Education and Research Program
(IBEAR); the California-Mexico Project; the Center for International
Studies (CIS); the Center for Multiethnic and transnational Studies;
El Centro Chicano; Overseas Study Programs; International Students and
Scholars Office; the Fisher Gallery, which regularly sponsors exhibits
related to Spain and Latin American art and artists; the Del Amo Foundation
grants for the study of Spanish Culture and Civilization, administered
by the Division of the Humanities; numerous student groups and organizations
with interest in Iberia, Latin America and Chicanos/Latinos; the Phi
Beta Delta International Honor Society, established to recognize students
and faculty with achievements in international fields, and the Ad Hoc
International Discussion Group and the International Affairs Committee,
which bring together faculty, staff and administrators with active involvement
in international education and research.
Beyond USC,
the campus holds memberships in the Southern California Consortium for
International Studies (SOCCIS) and in the Center for Research Libraries'
Latin American Microform Project (LAMP).
