Title: Felix Guggenheim Collection

Description: Felix Guggenheim (1904-1979) was a German literary agent who emigrated to the United States in the late 1930s. His extensive archive contains business correspondence and book reviews for the period between 1941 and 1976. Guggenheim was the foremost literary agent for German intellectuals who came to the U.S. after fleeing Nazi Germany. In addition to documenting the business transactions of many actors and writers, the letters also provide details of the struggles of the emigres for existence. Just a few of the authors represented in the Archive are Vicki Baum, Lion Feuchtwanger, Marta Feuchtwanger, Bruno Frank, Paulette Goddard Thor Heyerdahl, John Huston, Werner Keller, Fredrick Kohner, Paul Kohner, Heinrich Mann, Thomas Mann, Alfred Neumann, Erich Maria Remarque, Max Tau, Alma Mahle-Werfel, Franz Werfel, Victoria Wolff, and Arnold Zweig. There is also some documentation regarding Felix Guggenheim's immigration from German to England and then on to the United States. Also included are materials about Felix Guggenheim's activities in Los Angeles on behalf of the German refugees and exiles and his participation in the Jewish Club of 1933.
