Emergency Medical Field Personnel and Patient Transportation

Map 3 shows the location of emergency medical response units within the South Central Los Angeles area. Responding agencies for rescue and/or transport are: Los Angeles County Fire Department, Los Angeles City Fire Department, Inglewood Fire Department, Lynwood Fire Department, Adams Ambulance, and Goodhew Ambulance. Other response units located along or near the borders of the area also responded. (See the field response section for data on available resources.)

The availability of hospital emergency department services affects the availability of fire service, law enforcement, and private sector EMTS. As shown below, "closure to criticals" causes longer transport times and consequently, fewer EMS resources are available on the street. In some cases, law enforcement protection is provided for day to day runs into particular portions of the City of Los Angeles. All of these problems apply to South Central Los Angeles.
