The Emergency Medical Services Field Response

The Los Angeles City Fire Department organized and directed the response for almost all of the geographic area defined as South Central Los Angeles. The Los Angeles County Fire Department provided emergency medical services throughout their jurisdiction, and coordinated and provided fire service medical mutual aid. Goodhew Ambulance and Adams Ambulance provided transport service. Hawthorne, Compton, Long Beach, and Inglewood Fire Departments managed the field response in their own cities. Data on EMT experiences in the field was obtained from an EMSA survey with an estimated 60% return rate from responders dispatched into South Central Los Angeles. Consult the methodological note in Appendix A to assist with interpretation of this survey.
