EMS Equipment Damage

A total of 89 Los Angeles City Fire Department ambulances and fire trucks were damaged. Of these, seventy-six were hit by rocks and bottles, nine had bullet holes in them, and twenty-nine had broken windshields or side windows (Cowen, 1992). One vehicle was attacked by a rioter welding an axe, who left it buried in the roof of a Fire Service Battalion Chief's car. One hook and ladder fire truck had twenty-seven bullet holes. Two were attacked with molotov cocktails. Four Goodhew ambulance units were damaged (Stern, 1992b). Some had broken windows and dents, two had bullet holes. |
