Sources of Information
|
Hospital response information came from various sources. Data on the distribution of casualties and profiles of the injured come from the hospital records, telephone emergency department surveys conducted by LAEMSA and the Hospital Council of Southern California, an emergency department log study done by LADHS, and an earlier emergency department records study conducted by the Centers for Disease Control. Information on how hospitals organized their response came from interviews with emergency department nurses and doctors, and administrators at three hospitals: Martin Luther King/Drew Medical Center, Saint Francis Medical Center, and Daniel Freeman Medical Center. These three hospitals cared for more than 30% of the injured. Information on Kaiser Permanente Hospitals comes from their after-action report (Kaiser Permanente, 1992). |
