The collection consists of mainstream newspaper front pages and sections reporting on LGBT people or topics concerning LGBT people. The collection documents the transformation in the print media's coverage of LGBT people and concerns from reporting on "sexual deviants" through the assassination of Harvey Milk to the acceptance of marriage rights. The newspapers front pages were culled from the ONE Subject Files collection and donations from patrons.

Scope and Content

The series consists of mainstream broadsheet newspaper front pages and sections reporting on stories concerning LGBT people and/or topics. The newspapers are primarily published in California, but also include newspapers from cities across the United States. The asterisks after the date denote different editions when multiple editions for the same day exist in the collection.

Arrangement

The newspapers are arranged in chronoligcal order within each box. The finding aid information is arranged alphabetically by publication title and then in chronological order by publication date.

Series 2:  Series 2. Tabloid front pages 1974-2012 

Scope and content

The series consists of newspapers front pages in tabloid format reporting on stories concerning LGBT people and/or topics. The newspapers encompass local, regional, and national tabloids including free newspapers and supermarket tabloids published in the United States. The stories range from investigative reports to the sensational stories of supermarket tabloids.

Arrangement

The newspapers are arranged in chronoligcal order within each box. The finding aid information is arranged alphabetically by publication title and then in chronological order by publication date.
