Where is Leavey?

Leavey Library is located at the intersection of West 35th Street and Hoover Boulevard on the northeast corner of campus (near the intersection of Jefferson Boulevard and Figueroa Street). Mailing address: 651 W. 35th. St. University of Southern California Leavey Library Los Angeles, CA 90089-2571

What are Leavey's hours?

During the Fall and Spring semesters, Leavey is open 24 hours, except from 12:00 AM (Midnight) on Saturday - 9:00 AM on Sunday. Hours vary on holidays and semester breaks. For current hours, please go to the library's Hours page.

The general public may use the libraries when resources are not in use by or reserved for USC members. (Please note: Only USC members, USC alumni, and sponsored guests may be present in libraries open after 10 p.m. and/or before 7 a.m.  All patrons will be asked to present their USCard or library-issued USC identification during these times.) Where do I go for assistance in Leavey?

Research and computing assistance is available in the Lower Commons. During the fall and spring semesters reference librarians are available during the afternoon and early evening hours (hours vary during the summer, breaks and holidays) to assist students, faculty, and others in locating information via print and electronic resources. Student navigational assistants (SNAs) provide basic research and computing assistance and are available at all times Leavey is open. Campus maps are also available there.

How do I reserve the Auditorium or a Learning Room?

The Auditorium and Learning Rooms are available for use by students, faculty and staff of the University. One-time class meetings, lectures, readings, and other events qualify for use. Specifically excluded are courses and/or events for an entire semester, except by waiver from the director of Leavey Library.

The Auditorium is primarily designed to support events that require mutlimedia display, and secondarily to enhance campus life through educational and cultural events. The seating capacity is forty-nine according to fire code regulations. Please be advised that priority scheduling will be given for events with multimedia needs.

The Learning Rooms are designed for "hands on" computer instruction only. Learning Room A has twenty PC workstations. Learning Room B has twenty-four Macintosh workstations.

Lost and Found

Items left at Leavey Library can be claimed at the circulation desk, located on the left side of the main entrance lobby on the first floor. All items--including I.D.s--left in the Lower and Upper Commons are deposited at the circulation desk throughout the day.

How do I sign up for a Collaborative Workroom?

Reservations can be made up to one week in advance at the Reference Desks in the Upper and Lower Commons. You will need to show USC I.D. while using the room.  The Lower Commons has 20 rooms, designed for groups of 5-12 people. The Upper Commons has 13 rooms designed for 3-4 people, and 2 rooms designed for 5-12 people. All workrooms provide a white board, dry erase markers, and network connections for laptops.

What kind of computers does Leavey have?

The Lower Commons, located on the lower level of Leavey, contains 39 iMac computers, and 71 Dell computers. The Upper Commons is located on the second floor and contains 70 Dell computers, and 40 study carrels with network connections for laptop computers.

There are additional computer workstations available in the Learning Rooms, located on the lower level of Leavey. Learning Room A has 20 Dell computers, Learning Room B has 24 iMacs. These computers are available when the rooms are not in use for a class.

In the Lower Commons, an Express Station is available for a maximum of 5 minutes to send print jobs or for short computing sessions (such as checking email). Public access stations, which have Internet access but no productivity software, are also available on the first floor of Leavey.

Where do I pick up printouts?

USC Libraries provides printing options from all library research terminals, Leavey Library Information Commons and Multi-Media Lab computers. The new print system is designed to increase the flexibility available to USC Libraries' users in choosing where their output is picked up.

Print output is available in 8.5 x 11 only. The print system's default color job type is mixed. It assesses each job's color pages and black & white pages and charges accordingly (e.g. if you print out a report with a single color image on one page, you will be charged for 1 color page, while all the other pages will be charged at the black and white rate)

  • Double-sided Color: 70c (per sheet)

Jobs with both color and black & white pages will be charged for each page type separately.

Printouts can only be paid for by USCard (discretionary, or payroll deduction). A USCard automated value transfer station, located next to the Print Center, allows users to add cash to their discretionary account if needed.

To facilitate research, each library is also equipped with a color photocopier, and several libraries have additional copiers specifically designed for book copying as well. For more information, please see www.usc.edu/libraries/printing/

Where can I find books?

Books which can be checked out are located on the fourth floor of Leavey Library. Leavey's collection covers most general subject areas and is geared to support the undergraduate curriculum.  Reference books are located in the Lower Information Commons on the Lower Level.

How do I check out books?

To check out books you need a current library card; to get a library card bring your USC Identification Card to any library circulation desk.  Once you have a valid library card, you can check books out from any library.

Where can I find journals, magazines and newspapers?

Current journals, Bound journals, magazines and newspapers are located in the Periodical Reading Room on the first floor of Leavey past the circulation desk.
