Auditorium (lower level)
Multimedia equipment including PC and Macintosh computers, multiregion VCR and DVD player, and projector. For usage guide to the auditorium or to make a reservation request, see the Leavey Auditorium and Learning Rooms Information Page.
Bookstacks (fourth floor)
The 40,000 volume collection emphasizes easy access to titles that support USC's General Education requirements. Materials promoting cultural activities, current awareness or recreational pursuits are also acquired.
Circulation Desk Services (first floor to the left of the main entrance lobby)
Leavey Library carries a wide range of materials (books, DVDs, videos, headphones and reserve items) for use in the library or for limited loan. A library card is necessary to check out these materials. Inquire at the circulation desk for loan periods, library cards or payment of fines. The circulation desk is staffed 24 hours a day except when the building is closed: Hours of Operation
Lost and found: Items left at Leavey Library can be claimed at the circulation desk. All items—including IDs—left in the building are deposited at the circulation desk throughout the day. Once each week, items left longer than 7 days are sent to the Department of Public Safety (Parking Structure A) and USCards are sent to the USCard office in the Commons lobby (Student Union, by the Post Office).
Undergraduate and Graduate Course Reserves
Leavey Library facilitates both physical and electronic access to reserve materials required for undergraduate and graduate level course assignments. Leavey's circulation department houses copies of course materials, which includes books, course readings, homework solutions, audio and visual materials.
Students borrow and return reserve items to Leavey's circulation desk. To retrieve items for a particular course, students should first identify the items' call numbers by using the "Reserve Desk" icon in HOMER, USC's online library catalog.
Faculty can get reserves forms or place requests online.
Learning Rooms A and B
Leavey has two hands-on interactive computer learning rooms that provide an excellent environment for teaching and learning:
- Learning Room A is equipped with 20 PCs, instructor's workstation and projection and audio systems
- Learning Room B is equipped with 25 Power Macs, instructor's workstation and projection and audio systems.
For more information or to make a reservation request, see the Leavey Auditorium and Learning Rooms Information Page.

Study carrels and open tables provide comfortable study space in the periodicals room on the first floor, and on the third and fourth floors. Laptop connectivity is supported on the second, third, and fourth floors by both ethernet jacks and wireless networks.
Showcase Book Collections
- Second Floor Lobby: New Books and Great Books/Classics
The newest titles added to Leavey Library's collection are temporarily located (for three months) on Leavey's new books shelf. The new books circulate for four weeks and include new fiction and non-fiction titles.
The Great Books of the Western World is a series of classic texts in literature, history, philosophy, and science, including the works of Homer, Plato, Virgil, Plutarch, Locke, Shakespeare, Hume, Kant, Nietzsche, Gibbon, Descartes, Newton, Freud and many others.
The Franklin Library was a division of The Franklin Mint that produced fine collectors' editions of classic books. The title of our Franklin collection is: The Collected Stories of The World's Greatest Writers.
"This magnificent collection of books includes the most significant novels, biographies, histories, dramas and the greatest works of poetry, philosophy and science, as chosen by a distinguished group of scholars. Many are now very scarce. Each volume has a small booklet with notes on the volume. Authors include: Franz Kafka, Honore de Balzac, Anton Chekhov, Kurt Vonnegut, Jonathon Swift, Katherine Anne Porter, Miguel de Cervantes, Jack London, Aldous Huxley, James Joyce, Thomas Mann, Eta Hoffman, Jean Paul Satre, Vladimir Nabokov, Edith Wharton, William Faulkner....[and many more]." - Third Floor Lobby: Popular Reading--the McNaughton Collection
This collection features popular reading and bestsellers, ranging from the Harry Potter books to Dan Brown's adventure stories, and from authors like Joyce Carol Oates to Nora Roberts. Genres include mystery, adventure, romance, biography, and current events. There is something for everyone! These books circulate on short-term loan (two weeks), much like at the public library.
- Fourth Floor Lobby: Drama collection
Based on donations from the School of Theatre faculty, Leavey Library maintains a collection of plays. Titles include both individual plays and anthologies, all of which are listed in HOMER and may be checked out for four weeks. Students looking for plays should also consult the Theatre/Drama Subject listing for information regarding the more extensive holdings available within the University Libraries’ regular collections. Both Doheny and Leavey libraries have many plays shelved by call number in their bookstacks. Consult HOMER for specific holdings.
