Overview

  • The Science & Engineering Library provides resources for the life sciences, earth sciences, physical sciences, mathematics and engineering. Health sciences resources are provided at the Norris Medical Library on the Health Sciences campus.

Library News

  • Multi-Group Study Space: Visit the new collaborative group study space on the 2nd Floor (SSL 203). Multiple teams are encouraged to move the tables, chairs and whiteboards around to meet their study needs. Drop in anytime! This renovation was made possible by a grant from the Anton Burg Foundation.
  • Springer books published in 2009, 2006 and 2005 are available on-line through the USC Libraries. Enjoy this ready-access to over 13,000 e-books.
  • The Engineering Index Backfile (1884-1969) is now available via Engineering Village 2. With this significant addition, Compendex expands to cover over 120 years of core engineering literature. Happy searching!

Journals

Approximately 70,000 older bound journal volumes are housed on the 2nd floor. 600 recent issues are available on the 1st floor in the Current Periodicals area. All journals are shelved alphabetically by title. Once available in electronic format, most bound journal volumes are stored in the Grand Avenue Library. These volumes are pageable via HOMER, USC’s online catalog, and can be delivered to the Science & Engineering Circulation Desk (choose Science & Engineering from the pulldown page menu).

  • Most current journals, as well as many backfiles, are available through the USC Libraries' electronic resources.
  • If you need to know which bound journal volumes are in the Science & Engineering Library, use this LIST, which supplements HOMER's holdings.

Books

  • The reference collection of approximately 5,000 volumes is located on the 1st floor.
  • The new books are shelved on the 1st floor adjacent to the elevator.
  • Approximately 80,000 books are shelved on the 3rd floor. Additional books are stored in Grand Avenue Library and are pageable via HOMER, USC's online catalog. Be sure to select Science & Engineering as the delivery point.
  • Books placed on reserve for a particular course for the current semester are shelved behind the Circulation Desk, along with a small number of books that are on permanent reserve. Please request reserve books at the Circulation Desk.
