Overview

  • The Science & Engineering Library provides resources for the life sciences, earth sciences, physical sciences, mathematics and engineering. Health sciences resources are provided at the Norris Medical Library on the Health Sciences campus.

  • Springer books in 2009, 2006 and 2005 are available on-line at USC Libraries. Please enjoy this new e-resource, and find your interested e-books.
  • 11/18/2008: The Engineering Index Backfile (1884-1969) is acquired by S&E library and can be accessed via Engineering Village 2. When this great addition, Compendex covers well over 120 years of core engineering literature. Happy searching!
  • Oct. 19 - 25th is National Chemistry Week. The 2008 theme is "Have a Ball with Chemistry".
  • 7/09/2008: Cite it right is designed for you! If you want to polish your technical writing skills with right citing your references, please visit the Cite it right research guide, which has everything in technical writing, books, style manuals, quick style references, etc.

Journals

Approximately 70,000 bound journal volumes are shelved on the second and third floors. Approximately 600 current titles are shelved on the first floor in the Current Periodicals area. Journal are shelved alphabetically by title, with titles beginning with A through O shelved on the second floor and titles beginning with P through Z shelved on the third floor. Additional journal volumes are stored in the Grand Avenue Library. These volumes are pageable via HOMER, USC’s online catalog, and can be delivered to the S&E circulation desk (choose S&E from the pulldown page menu).

  • Many journals are now available through USC's electronic resources.
  • If you need to know which bound journal volumes are in the Science & Engineering Library, use this LIST, which is signficantly more accurate than HOMER.

Books

  • The reference collection of approximately 5,000 volumes is located on the first floor.
  • The new books are shelved on the first floor adjacent to the elevator.
  • Approximately 80,000 books are shelved on the third floor. Additional books are stored in Grand Avenue Library and are pageable via HOMER, USC's online catalog. Be sure to select Science & Engineering as the delivery point.
  • Books placed on reserve for a particular course for the current semester are shelved behind the circulation desk, along with a small number of books that are on permanent reserve. Please request reserve books at the circulation desk.

Technical Reports

Approximately 20,000 technical reports, with an emphasis on NASA reports, are shelved on the second floor, adjacent to the elevator.
