- New Mac version of SciFinder Scholar 2007 is now available! This new version runs on Mac OS X Leopard (10.5) without using Rosetta. Please read the news from the CAS. If you want to access this new version on your Mac, please contact Norah Xiao!
- The USC Libraries new strategic plan -- with emphases on collections, customer service and technology/access -- "The Essential Library," is on the web! http://www.usc.edu/libraries/essential/
- More of our Springer books series are online, fulltext, back to volume 1 than ever before! Click here for the list.
- Several of the important databases to which the USC Libraries subscribe for the University require users to download small programs that authenticate them as valid USC users. These programs embed some USC licensing data and cannot be publicly shared, per the database vendors. So you need to get them from us. The programs are: SciFinder Scholar (American Chemical Society), and the Beilstein (organic) and Gmelin (inorganic) chemistry databases (the last two on the Crossfire platform). For the files, and other assistance, please contact our chemistry subject specialist Norah Xiao at nxiao@usc.edu.
Journals
Approximately 70,000 bound journal volumes are shelved on the second and third floors. Approximately 600 current titles are shelved on the first floor in the Current Periodicals area. Journal are shelved alphabetically by title, with titles beginning with A through O shelved on the second floor and titles beginning with P through Z shelved on the third floor. Additional journal volumes are stored in the Grand Avenue Library. These volumes are pageable via HOMER, USC’s online catalog, and can be delivered to the S&E circulation desk (choose S&E from the pulldown page menu).
- Many journals are now available through USC's electronic resources.
- If you need to know which bound journal volumes are in the Science & Engineering Library, use this LIST, which is signficantly more accurate than HOMER.
- Click here to download a one-page document consisting of instructions and suggestions for locating e-journal content at USC.
Books
- The reference collection of approximately 5,000 volumes is located on the first foor.
- The new books are shelved on the first floor adjacent to the elevator.
