Philbin
In January 1999, Ann Philbin became director of the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles. Under her leadership, the Hammer established dynamic exhibitionsand publicprograms which include Hammer Projects, the widely acclaimed series of exhibitions of emerging artists. Ms. Philbin also instituteda new acquisitions program of contemporary work--the Hammer Contemporary Collection-- and oversaw thebuilding andopening of the Billy Wilder Theater in December 2006.Prior to her arrival at the Hammer, Ms. Philbin was director of The Drawing Center in New York for nine yearsand transformed it into a vital cultural center and showcase for contemporary and historical exhibitions.Before taking the helm of The Drawing Center, Philbinwas an independent curator andorganized large-scale public art exhibitions.Ms. Philbin sits on the board of directors of theFoundation for Arts Initiatives (formerly the American Center Foundation), the Association of Art Museum Directors (AAMD) and the Artists Legacy Foundation. She is a past board member of The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts(2000 to 2008) and wasalso a committee member of the National Endowment for the Arts’ Federal Advisory Committee on International Exhibitions, theMayor'sLos Angeles Economy and Jobs Committee (LAEJC) and the Arts Oversight Committee of Los Angeles World Airports.
