Joyce Appleby is emeritus professor of history at UCLA. She is past president of the Organization of American Historians and the American Historians Association. Her research has been on early modern England, France, and America and the emergence of liberal values and institutions in those countries. Among her many books are Telling the Truth About History; Capitalism and a New Social Order: The Jeffersonian Vision of the 1790s; Ideology and Economic Thought in 17th Century England; Inheriting the Revolution: The First Generation of Americans; Thomas Jefferson; A Restless Past: History and the American Public; and, most recently, The Relentless Revolution: A History of Capitalism.
