Writers of Capote Honored at 18th Annual USC Scripter Award Ceremony
Capote author Gerald Clarke and screenwriter Dan Futterman were honored at the 18th annual USC Scripter® Award ceremony on Saturday, Feb. 11. The writers of Capote are the winners of the 18th annual USC Scripter Award, a literary award that honors both author and screenwriter for best adaptation of a book, novella or short story to film. Gerald Clarke and Dan Futterman will be honored for their work at the Scripter Award ceremony, the black-tie gala to be held on Feb. 11 in USC's Edward L. Doheny Jr. Memorial Library and hosted by the Friends of the USC Libraries.Capote and Syriana Tie in 18th Annual USC Scripter Balloting
In a year when there were only a few votes separating all of the finalists for the USC Scripter Award, two films have tied for the best film adaptation of a book or novella. The writers of Capote and Syriana received an equal number of votes in the Scripter selection committee balloting. The writers of Brokeback Mountain, Capote, The Constant Gardener, A History of Violence and Syriana have been nominated for USC's 18th Scripter Award, honoring the year's best film adaptation of a book, novella or short story.
Scripter Selection Committee Chair Announced
Academy Award-winning screenwriter Tom Schulman will chair the 18th annual USC Scripter Award selection committee. The Oscar-winner (Best Original Screenplay for 1989's Dead Poet's Society) will lead a selection committee comprising Writers Guild of America members, fiction and nonfiction authors, film industry executives, USC faculty and selected members of the Friends of the USC Libraries.
Scripter Masters of Ceremony Announced
Actor, producer and author Henry Winkler has been tapped as master of ceremonies for the 18th annual USC Scripter Award ceremony to be held Saturday, Feb. 11 on the University of Southern California campus. Hal Kanter, who has lent his humor to all 17 prior Scripter ceremonies, returns for the sixth time as grand emcee.

The Scripter Award is one of the entertainment industry and university's highly anticipated events. It brings together members of the entertainment, literary and academic communities to celebrate writers and the art of writing. This year's USC Scripter Award gala will be held on Saturday, Feb. 11 in the Los Angeles Times Reference Room of the Edward L. Doheny Jr. Memorial Library.
