Collections

Rare books are available for consultation in the Special Collections reading room, via the Feuchtwanger Memorial Library on the second floor of Edward L. Doheny Jr. Memorial Library. Books are considered rare by meeting established criteria regarding their age, condition, intrinsic qualities of bibliographic research, or market value. Rare books support teaching and research through the doctoral level and beyond in all areas of specialization, though primary strengths reside in the following areas:

  • American literature
  • German exile studies
  • Natural history
  • Philosophy

The collection also supports teaching and independent study through the undergraduate level in almost all areas of study.

  • New Rare Book acquisitions
  • Rare Book journals
  • E-resources in Rare Books
  • Collection development policy
