RESEARCH - HP 490 COMPONENT
|
|
We believe in the importance of involving students in research
early in their academic careers. Students will have opportunities
to work with their professors in research projects such as:
- Investigating how to reverse the effects of atherosclerosis,
the primary cause of heart disease and stroke;
- Investigating the epidemic of obesity and diabetes among American
youth;
- Studying the spread and control of the HIV virus in high-risk
populations;
- Researching gene-environment interactions in tobacco, alcohol
and drug addiction;
- Assessing stress and personality characteristics in relation
to health maintenance and illness prevention;
- Studying international health issues such as how economic and
environmental changes impact people's health and well-being.
INTERNSHIPS - HP 480 COMPONENT |
|
All HP students have the opportunity to pursue internships for
academic credit and/or a stipend. These internship experiences often
lead to jobs after graduation. The goal of this course is to provide
students completing their field training an opportunity to integrate
and apply knowledge and skills acquired in their respective course
work to public health work settings. The field training experience
benefits the intellectual and practical capabilities of the students
while making valuable contributions to public health agencies participating
in the program.
