- "My Favorite Book" Review Contest
- Kindergarten through sixth-grade students from the USC Family of Schools are invited to submit reviews of their favorite books. This is facilitated by USC students who are in the USC ReadersPlus program through the Joint Educational Project. Reviews are generally submitted for consideration the last Friday of November. Awards are presented to the top reviews and appear in an issue of the University Park Family newspaper.

- Literacy One
- Literacy One is an English-as-a-Second-Language program that focuses on improving the English-language readiness and pre-literacy skills of students at elementary schools in the University Park and Health Sciences Campus neighborhoods. Funded in part by a USC Neighborhood Outreach Grant.

- Naval ROTC Volunteer Program, "A Partnership to Promote Literacy"
- The USC Naval ROTC Volunteer Program is a community-service program utilizing the talents and skills of the USC Midshipmen Battalion to benefit the immediate Los Angeles community surrounding the University of Southern California. The project at L. B. Weemes Elementary School officially known as "A Partnership to Promote Literacy" involves working with classes, tutoring individual students, sponsoring a Read-A-Thon, and organizing a spring awards ceremony to recognize Read-A-Thon participants.

- Reach Out and Read
- ROR is a local chapter of the national Reach Out and Read Program and is dedicated to promoting early literacy in underserved populations. Participants volunteer their time to visit hospitals and pediatric clinics affiliated with LAC+USC Hospital and read to children in the waiting rooms. The organization also provides books for families if they cannot afford books for their children.

- USC Literacy Project
- The USC Literacy Project is a volunteer program that works along with the USC ReadersPlus Program assisting individual USC Family of Schools' students in the area of reading. The goal is to encourage a love for reading in students while bringing them up to an appropriate reading level.

- USC ReadersPlus
- This program places USC students with work-study grants (and a limited number of non work-study students, when outside funding allows) in five of the USC Family of Schools as elementary literacy and math tutors. Reading tutors engage in one-on-one tutoring with kindergarten through sixth-grade students in reading, writing and language development during school hours and oral reading and skill development with individuals and groups after-school. Math tutors engage in one-on-one tutoring with kindergarten through twelfth-grade students in math and algebra skills development and problem solving, and assist individuals and small groups in computer labs and after-school math activities. Funded in part by a USC Neighborhood Outreach grant.
