- Neighborhood Councils
- The neighborhood council system in Los Angeles was created as part of the 1999 Charter Reform. Neighborhood stakeholders from the various communities around the city of Los Angeles can organize their own neighborhood councils and ask for certification by the city. The neighborhood council system is meant to make government more accessible to the people and more responsive to residents needs. It also serves to promote civic participation in our communities by encouraging residents, business-owners, and other community members to work together to improve their neighborhoods. ||There are three certified neighborhood councils in the Health Sciences Campus area: the Lincoln Heights Neighborhood Council, the Boyle Heights Neighborhood Council and the LA-32 Neighborhood Council. The two neighborhood councils in the University Park area include the North Area Neighborhood Development Council and the Downtown Los Angeles Neighborhood Council.
