Technical Assistance
Center for Economic Development
The CED assists local economic development organizations in expanding and enhancing their functional capacity through collaboratives tapping USC's faculty, staff and students. The CED works in collaboration with the Community Development Design Forum. Services include: predevelopment studies, feasibility and market analysis, economic development, urban design, community outreach and organization, community resource mapping, community assistance panels, and project management and review.

Community Design Studio
A Jefferson Park community and Jefferson Boulevard Revitalization project with USC students working with Jefferson Park Friends of the Library and Jefferson Park Community Empowerment Corporation to examine ways to revitalize Jefferson Boulevard through community-oriented, multi-use development projects.

Community Development and Design Forum
The forum, a professional outreach arm of the USC School of Policy, Planning and Development, was established in 1995 to provide technical assistance to communities and to conduct applied research throughout the Southern California region. The forum works in collaboration with the USC Center for Economic Development to support initiatives adopted by local communities seeking to improve and develop their economies, physical environments and overall quality of life. CDDF services include planning and design, project development, feasibility studies, community resource mapping, community organization, and computer-aided graphics and communications projects.

Engineering Writing Program
Students in the USC School of Engineering version of Writing 340 respond to a request for proposals to assist community-based organizations. Past projects have included a space utilization study for a homeless shelter and a computer lab reconfiguration for a youth center. Suggestions for projects that would benefit from engineering students' evaluation and input are welcome. Many past reports have been implemented and/or used for grants.

This program brings owners and managers of family-owned companies together to address common issues and successfully work through transitions, develop strategic vision, and enact strategic plans for the business and for the family.

Los Angeles Metro Minority Business Development Center
The mission of the Los Angeles Metro Minority Business Development Center is to increase participation of ethnically owned businesses in the free enterprise system by providing consulting services, access to capital, access to market opportunities and advanced business training.

National Center for Eco-Industrial Development
The mission of the National Center for Eco-Industrial Development is to facilitate job creation and sustainable industrial expansion in distressed communities around the nation by applying principles of industrial ecology, establishing eco-industrial parks, and expanding use of environmentally benign manufacturing processes and techniques.

Neighborhood Theatre Resource Network
Neighborhood TuRN at the University of Southern California is a center for research, development and networking of and for performing arts organizations whose work is based primarily in the community of Central Los Angeles. Its central task is to provide the students, staff and faculty of USC with access to the services they may need to research, document and produce community-based theater. It also provides members of the community surrounding USC with free theater services or referrals to theater services where possible and appropriate.

Spanish Cultural Resource Center
This center provides support to institutions, educators and persons involved or interested in teaching and learning Spanish. The center offers resources (an extensive library, including didactic materials, literature, encyclopedias, children's books, videos, online materials, and more), and teacher training courses. SCRC also organizes cultural events related to the Spanish language and culture.

Talking Together: Engagements for Creative Dialogue
Talking Together is a program that enables the USC Emeriti Faculty to interact in a more direct and focused way with business and professional communities. Emeriti Faculty engage with the business community in high level, creative and thought-provoking exchanges to promote effective interaction with internal and external clients, partners and the community. Each program is customized by the business or professional sponsor to determine topic, speaker(s), audience, moderator(s), venue, agenda and schedule. The program can offer an expert on an issue of interest to clients or prospective clients, or can provide speakers on subjects of interest to the broader business community or the general public.

USC Civic and Community Relations
USC Civic and Community Relations (USC CCR), a unit of University Relations under USC External Relations, harnesses the resources of the university on behalf of the communities it strives to serve at both its University Park and Health Sciences campuses. It develops partnerships with local community and USC leaders, stakeholders and decision makers; and implements and promotes USC's Children and Family University Initiative through the USC Family of Schools and USC Health Sciences Campus Partner Schools Task Force. USC CCR also documents and communicates USC's community involvement; provides direct services to the community; and administers the L.A. Metro Minority Business Develoment Center, the USC Educational Opportunity Programs Center, Multimedia University Academy, and the USC School for Early Childhood Education. This work is carried out with input from the USC Community Advisory Council.

USC Community Computer Center
The USC Community Computer Center features a computer lab, classroom and Trojan Internet Connection providing access to technology at little or no cost. Individuals who take computer training will work with instructors from Break Away Technologies, Inc, a nonprofit community organization, and volunteer students and staff from USC. Those who complete an eight-week training course will receive a fully refurbished computer to take home.
