The Galen Center at USC

Description: A 255,000-square-foot arena with 10,258 seats to support USC men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball, and a 45,000-square-foot pavilion including three practice courts and offices.

Location: Southeast corner of Jefferson Boulevard and Figueroa Street

Projected Completion Date: Summer 2006

Parking: A 1,200-space parking structure to be built between the Radisson Hotel and Flower Street

Community Uses (at cost or no cost):

  • Venue for Kids In Sports, Summer Sports Camp, Kid’s Corner.

    Each of these programs provides opportunities for children to attend games, receive training, meet athletes, etc.

  • Community cultural events
  • Launch of the Arts in Sports Program providing docent-led educational tours of the works of art at the Galen Center
  • Local school graduation ceremonies
  • Venue for regional Academic Decathlon
  • Venue for high school sports championships
  • Complimentary tickets, as available, for sports events through selected community groups

Figueroa Corridor investment:

  • A new university and community facility providing an anchor at the corner of Figueroa & Jefferson
  • $70 million building and plaza
  • Over $2 million to be invested in public art and fountains.
  • $4 million in spending by visitors on site
  • $1.5 million in operations expenditures by USC for maintaining and operating the Events Center
  • A total of just over $10 million in direct annual recurring economic impact
  • $2.3 million in off-site expenditures
  • $9.3 million in indirect and induced impacts
