Hebrew Union College was founded by Rabbi Isaac Mayer Wise in 1875 and is the oldest institution of higher Jewish learning in the nation. The Cincinnati-based college merged with the Jewish Institute of Religion some 50 years later and established a Los Angeles campus in 1954. Today the college is home to the Frances-Henry Library, containing nearly 100,000 volumes on Jewish academic and cultural endeavors, and sponsors numerous lectures and conferences for students and the general public.

Los Angeles Trade Technical College offers classes in 65 different occupational areas. This community college offers two year associate degrees in the Arts and Sciences, as well as Vocational Certificate programs and general education transfer programs that meet lower division general education requirements for transfer to any University of California or California State colleges.

Originally an exclusive residential enclave built at the turn of the century by Judge Charles Silent, the 20-acre Chester Place campus is home to Mount St. Mary's College. Founded in 1925, the Catholic college offers a liberal arts-based, values-oriented curriculum. Although its main campus is in West Los Angeles, all associate degree programs, graduate programs and educational credential programs are located in University Park on the site of the former Doheny family estate, which was given to Mount St. Mary's in 1962.

The University of Southern California, one of the world's leading independent research universities, is distinguished by renowned faculty, innovative community building programs, and highly competitive admissions standards. USC has grown from a college of 53 students at its founding in 1880 to more than 28,000 students today. Points of interest include the Widney Alumni House (1880), USC's first instructional building and the second oldest school structure in California, and Mudd Hall of Philosophy (1930), a city landmark modeled after a medieval Tuscan monastery. The campus hosts over 1,500 events a year, ranging from local high school graduations to lectures by national figures, that attract friends and neighbors throughout the community.
