Guidelines:
Disaster Response & Recovery Team
ADMINISTRATIVE LEVEL
Security Director: Supervises security of building(s), property, controls pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
Facilities Maintenance: Is familiar with floor plans, utilities, special hazards of building(s); knows what physical resources are available and location.
OPERATIONAL LEVEL
Conservation Specialist: Experienced with types of damage that can occur, makes recommendations on proper handling of damaged materials, supplies to be ordered, training of volunteers/staff, choice of salvage techniques; Participates in the assessment of damage.
Cataloger/Records Maintenance Supervisor: Keeps track of damaged materials whether salvaged or discarded; supervises numbering/coding of boxed materials and loaded pallets.
Recovery Secretary/Recorder: Maintains complete records of all facets of recovery operation; involved in initial documentation and revisions of disaster plan, drawing up of insurance claims, post-mortem of operation.
Library Director: Chief liaison between operations team and administration, spokesperson in public relations matters.
Collections Managers: Assists in determining salvage priorities in areas under their supervision, supervises salvage work on-site in collection area.
Salvage Team Leaders: Trained to direct salvage crews, train volunteers in salvage techniques.
Salvage Team Members: Recruited from staff as "volunteers" to be trained in salvage procedures and to be ready to respond when called; may serve as trainers/team leaders if scope of disaster warrants.
