Board of Directors
Fund-granting institutions as well as individuals and parishes who support Episcopal Campus Ministry at the University of Southern California can be confident that all funds given are managed with high standards of stewardship by a very competent group of people committed to the church's vital mission on our college campuses.
Nine members of the Board serve in three classes of three-year terms. These include the Officers of the Board:

The Rev. Michael S. Seiler, the Acting President of the Board of Directors, is Associated for Adult Christian Formation at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, Pacific Palisades. Previously he served in Philadelphia after ordination in this diocese. A 1997 graduate of Yale Divinity School, he serves on the Alumni Board of Berkeley Divinity School at Yale. He is a strong advocate of increasing the Church's mission outreach to young adults in higher education.

Ms. Annette V. Graw, the Past President of the Board, is an experienced vestry member at St. Bede's, Venice/Mar Vista, where she has served multiple terms as Junior and Senior Warden and is currently serving as Clerk of the Vestry. She is the founding broker for South Bay Broker's, Inc. and for eight years served as President of the Board of Directors for South Bay Free Clinic, now the South Bay Family Healthcare Centers, where she was active in fundraising. She is a Director of the Corporation of the Diocese and a member of the Diocesan Council. She is also an associate of the Order of the Holy Cross, a Lay Eucharistic Minister at St. Bede's, and currently serves as President of Incarnation Deanery.

Dr. Karen Symms Gallagher, the Vice President of the Board, is the Emery Stoops and Joyce King-Stoops Dean of USC's Rossier School of Education. An expert on the dynamics of teacher education reform, Karen was appointed Dean at USC on July 1, 2000. She previously served six years as dean and professor of educational policy and leadership in the School of Education at the University of Kansas. In her work there, she is credited with leading the school's organizational restructuring that strengthened the school's programs and boosted its national rankings. She is also credited with completing a $14 million construction of Pearson Hall, the school's new home. Karen has served as national President of the Association of Colleges and Schools of Education in State Universities and Land Grant Colleges and Affiliated Private Universities, and joined Canterbury USC's Board in 2002.

Dr. Laurie Brand, the Treasurer of the Board, is a member of the USC Faculty as a full professor in the International Relations. She has served as Director of USC's Center for International Studies (1997-2000) and is currently the director of USC's School of International Relations. She is a member of All Saints, Pasadena, where she has served as the coordinator of the International Affairs sub-group of the Peace and Justice ministries, and as a member of the Transformational Journals working group. Laurie has been actively involved with worship and education programs for Canterbury students. She was twice elected to a one-year term on the Board by Diocesan Convention, and now holds a regular three-year seat on the Board.

Mr. Konrad Schreier Esq., the Secretary of the Board, is a Senior Vice President and Senior Counsel for Comerica Bank. He attends St. Cross by-the-Sea in Hermosa Beach and has served on the Audit Committee and many years on the Vestry. He is a USC alumnus for his undergraduate and graduate degrees and holds a law degree from Loyola.

Dr. Alexander Moore is a Professor on the USC Faculty in the Anthropology Department. A highly-sought advisor, Zandy is on the Vestry of the Cathedral Congregation, and not long ago served as Senior Warden. He has served a number of terms on the Board of Directors for the Cathedral Center Corporation.

Mrs. Michelle Miller Crowe graduated from USC in 2004 with a B.S. in Business Administration. She was involved in Canterbury for three years and served as president of the student group in 2003 and as a student member of the Board of Directors from Fall 2002 to Spring 2004. She is currently an Account Manager at Lantronix, Inc. She was recently married to Rick Crowe in June of 2006 and attends St. Gregory's Episcopal Church in Long Beach.

Dr. Glenn B. White is a Clinical Psychologist with the Reiss-Davis Child Study Center in Los Angeles. He also serves as a Board Member of the Carter House, a residential facility for mentally ill adults that provides low income housing and case management services. He attends St. John's, Los Angeles.

The Rev. Canon Paul Lawson, a long time advocate for campus ministry in the Diocese of Los Angeles, was Canon for Social Ministry for five years, has served on the Diocesan Budget Committee and with the Ecclesiastical Court. He holds a D. Min. from the Claremont School of Theology. He is the Rector at St. Cross-by-the-Sea in Hermosa Beach. Having served previously, Fr. Lawson returned to an active role on the Board in 2004.

The Rt. Rev. J. Jon Bruno, D.D., Bishop Diocesan, as Provost of the Cathedral Center formed a strong link of support between Canterbury USC and the Cathedral Congregation, from which comes one of our current Board members and one of our representatives to the Diocesan Program Group on Ministry of higher education. Bishop Bruno is well known throughout the Episcopal Church as a strong supporter of young adult ministry.

The Rt. Rev. Chester L. Talton, D.D., Bishop Suffragan, has oversight for campus ministry in the Diocese of Los Angeles, and for the Diocesan Program Group on Ministry in Higher Education. Bishop Talton, like Bishop Bruno, is a strong advocate of young adult ministry.

The Rev. Glenn M. Libby, Ph.D., has served over ten years as Episcopal Chaplain at USC after one year as Associate Chaplain. In addition to his pastoral experience with teenagers and young adults, he holds an M.B.A. in management and brings to the Board sixteen years of high-level corporate experience in project and budget management. In 2001, he completed a Ph.D. degree in Religion and Social Ethics at USC, and for the past two years he has held a faculty appointment in USC's School of Religion. He serves on the diocesan Program Group on Ministry in Higher Education, and on the Bishop's Advisory Committee on Pastoral and Professional Standards.

Ms. Laura Wingert is a junior majoring in Mechanical Engineering. She has been active in Canterbury USC and served as a member of the leadership team for the past two years.

Mr. Joel McMillan is a senior majoring in Business. He has been active in Canterbury USC for the past two years and has been involved as a volunteer in the Urban Mission Project, working with a homeless resource center and women's resource center in the local community.

The Rev. Rick Byrum is Priest-in-Charge at Holy Trinity and St. Benedict Parish in Alhambra. He is one of our newest members on the Board. He is active in community service and safety as a Reserve Deputy of the LA County Sheriff's Department. He is Chaplain to the Sheriff, and is part of the L.A. County Mental Health youth crises and suicide review team.

The Rev. Cn. Mark R. Kowalewski, Ph.D., is the Rector of our local parish, St. JohnÕs Church, Los Angeles. He holds a USC Ph.D. in Religion and Social Ethics (1990) and has always been a strong supporter of Canterbury USC. He joined the board in 2006.

Dr. Marlene Coleman Huss serves as one of our representatives to the Diocesan Program Group on Ministry of higher education. Along with her other medical pursuits (including her role as attending physician at Cal Tech), she is Associate Clinical Professor of Family Medicine at USC, which is her alma mater. Deeply committed to the cause of meeting the spiritual needs of young people, Marlene was one of two people from the Diocese to attend the Episcopal Church's National Gathering on Campus Ministry Strategies held in Atlanta in December 1997. She attends the Cathedral Congregation.

Dr. Donald Miller is Firestone Professor of Religion on the USC faculty and the Executive Director of USC's Center for Religion and Civic Culture. A member of All Saints, Pasadena, he earned his Ph.D. at USC and is the father of Arpi Miller, who graduated in 1998. Dr. Miller was active on the Board from 1998-2001.

The Rt. Rev. Frederick H. Borsch, Ph.D., Bishop Diocesan (retired), has had a long association with ministry in higher education. Bishop Borsch served as Dean of the Chapel and Professor of Religion at Princeton University (1981-1988) and was President, Dean, and Professor of New Testament (1972-1981) at the Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley, CA. He has served on the Canterbury Board since 1988. Bishop Borsch recently served as the Interim Dean of the Berkeley Divinity School at Yale, and is currently serving as Adjunct Faculty in USC's School of Religion.

Lay Minister

Ryan Gillespie is currently serving as the Lay Minister for Canterbury USC. In 2006, he graduated from the University of Oregon with a B.A. in English. Before coming to Los Angeles, Ryan worked in Portland, Oregon as a Business Data Analyst for Oregon Health and Science University. Ryan's work with Canterbury includes coordinating our young adult spirituality initiatives: MiX (Music in Christ) and the Urban Mission Project (UMP). The UMP is an interfaith service learning model with spiritual reflection. For nine years, Ryan has been involved in Province VIII's Annual Gathering for college students and young adults and will be continuing that work as registrar, facilitator and young adult network communicator.
