GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR THE QUIKSCIENCE CHALLENGE

Students and teachers will create teams.  A team is a group of up to 6 students from the same school and one teacher. Middle school students must be in 6th - 8th grades; high school students must be in 9th - 12th grades.

Teams must submit a registration form in November. Each school may register two teams in each division. Teams will receive additional materials and instructions after they register. An information packet will be sent to each registered team with important dates, details and project formats for the competition. QuikSCience Challenge staff will also be available to each team to help with ideas and access to existing curricular materials.

QuikSCience Challenge entries will be judged by a panel of scientists, educators, business leaders, artists and ocean athletes.

Please note that the QuikSCience Challenge is not a typical science fair competition and a science research project is NOT a required component (except for the research proposal required for High School teams).  Entries will be judged solely on the basis of the Challenge project requirements.  However, if a research project is integrally linked to either the Lesson Plan or Community Service project, then a description of the research and results may be included in the portfolio and presentation.

Alternate team member:
Each team may designate an alternate member.  The alternate’s role would be to step in and participate on the team should one of the regular members need to drop out.  Teachers, it is not advisable to require full participation of the alternate unless another team member drops out.  First and Second place prizes will be limited to 6 students and 1 teacher only (no exceptions will be made).

Prizes!
Every team that submits a final project will be entered into a raffle to win a free field trip (bus included) to a local aquarium or science center for their whole class (up to $500 value)!

There will be Quiksilver merchandise for all participating teams!
