DAY 6 - Saturday, June 7, 2008

As a part of our road trip to Avalon, we split into groups and performed skits about a particular organism on Catalina. This is Fanny (right) and a group of dead Catalina Island Foxes (left).

As Jessica poses for the picture, Fanny unfortunately falls off the tower at the Catalina Botanical Garden.

In the Catalina Island Conservancy nature center, we looked at the 3-D diagram of the island and mapped out our adventures.
DAY 5 - Friday, June 6, 2008

A curious find: a live wrasse, buried in the sand during our trip to the tide pool.

Before we explore one of the mudflats in Catalina Island, we learned about how sponges survive.

After an exhausting hike, we sit on the edge of a mountain to enjoy the beautiful view of Catalina Island.

This is Mr. Winters, our advisor, unfortunately falling off the cliff.
DAY 4 - Thursday, June 5, 2008

This peaceful scene soon turned into the brutal obstacle course for our scavenger hunt.

Jessica happily paints her soon-to-be algae-pressed bookmark.

This is our computer station where we write the wonderfully simple blogs you see here!
DAY 3 - Wednesday, June 4, 2008
 Spike it!!! (We’re playing volleyball)
 Bug Busters—embarking on their adventure.
We resorted to bopping each other to get to know each other.
DAY 2 - Tuesday, June 3, 2008

We rummaged through the hold-fast of Macrocystis, the yellow tubey-stuff. We found several different sea organisms including sea-water snails, brittle stars, and a miniature crab!

Well, you can’t see it, but we’re standing in front of a touch tank! Here we learned about different ways to classify sea creatures! And yes, you guessed it: we touched some them!
DAY 1 - Monday, June 2, 2008

The front pier was the location of many of our activities, including our arrival, snorkeling, and an exciting geology lesson.

Before we embarked on our snorkeling adventure, we stopped to pose and show off our gear.

At lunch, we ate a delicious meal while enjoying the scenic view.
