The USC retiree computer Help Squad was created for USC retirees by USC retirees. Its volunteers are available to assist with your computer and Internet-related problems. We may not be able to solve every problem, but we will try. If we are not successful, we will suggest where you might turn next (to your Internet Service Provider, or ISP; a software vender; the manufacturer of your computer or other physical device; etc.) based upon the nature of the problem. Your initial points of contact are the people listed in the left-hand column of this Web page. The person you contact will either get in touch with you directly to see what can be done or, if another of our two-dozen volunteers seems especially well suited to deal with the issue that you raise, will forward your request for help. The person helping you may be able to solve the problem through an exchange of e-mail messages or a telephone call. Or it may be helpful for a Help Squad volunteer to make arrangements to visit you in order to see exactly what the nature of the problem is and to try a hands-on solution. Please be patient witih us. A few of our volunteers are IT (Information Technology) professionals, but the majority of us are merely retirees who use computers now and then, who have encountered our own problems and have learned how to overcome them, and who are willing to share these experiences with our USC colleagues. We are clearly not the only game in town. For example, if you have maintained your USC computing account, you probably know that you may seek help from USCs ITS (Information Technology Services) consultants. The ITS phone number and e-mail address may be found in the left-hand column of this page. If your USC computing account has not been renewed and you need to reactivitate it or to see if you are eligible for a retiree computer account, contact Jennifer Ontai at the USC Emeriti Center either by phone, (213) 740-8169, or by e-mail, jontai@usc.edu.
