The Drama Hour Is Back!

Those of you who were fans of the KNX “Drama Hour” that was discontinued a few years ago may not know that “Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar,” “Tales of the Texas Rangers,” “The Fred Allen Show, ” and other classics from the so-called Golden Age of radio are back on the air in Los Angeles. After yet another format change, radio station KKGO (540 AM and 1260 AM) is now broadcasting these and other classics Monday through Friday evenings from 9:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. For the schedule of upcoming broadcasts, click on KKGO 1260/540.




Old-Time Radio on the Internet

If you are interested in old-time radio but live in an area where reception for the KKGO signal is poor, take heart. There are a handful of Internet sites that feature old-time radio programming, including one that streams such programming continuously. The Web site is am 1710 Old-Time Radio, located in Antioch, Illinois. A complete listing of programs plus a daily schedule may be found on that Web site. To listen to these programs, go to the site by clicking on the link above, then click on “Listen via the mp3 Stream at 24 Kbps.” Before doing so, you will need to have an audio player capable of playing mp3 files (such as Winamp or RealPlayer) installed on your computer.


More Radio Programming for Seniors

Every Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m., Los Angeles radio station KPFK-FM brodcasts an hour-long program devoted exclusively to senior living called Good for Life. You can listen to the broadcast program by tuning in to KPFK-FM at 90.7 FM, or you can receive the program on the Internet via streaming audio by going to the KPFK Web site, www.kpfk.org, and clicking on “Listen Live.” Good for Life is a production of More than Shelter for Seniors® located in Burbank.
