Brigadoon

The 2009 theatre party took us to Scotland.  We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to "Brigadoon."  Once again, our talented students from the School of Theatre and the Thornton School of Music were sensational.

Staff Recognition Luncheon

Seventy USC staff who retired in 2008 were honored at the Twenty-fourth Annual Staff Retirement Luncheon on Thursday, March 19, 2009, at Town and Gown on the University Park Campus.  Todd Dickey, Senior Vice President for Administration, thanked the retirees for their combined 1,548 years of service to the university.  The luncheon was planned and executed by the SRA, led by Vice President Louise Ball and her committee.  Video highlights may be viewed on YouTube in four parts: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, and Part 4.  See also a copy of the program.

Basketball Game
USC vs. Washington State
February 19, 2009

We returned to the Galen Center in February to cheer our Trojan men's basketball team to victory over the Washington State Cougars.  Before the game, we enjoyed a meal at the University Club.  This is the third year for this joint staff and faculty event, and we look forward to a return visit in 2010.  FINAL SCORE: USC 61, Washington State 51.

Holiday Celebration 2008

Approximately 175 retired USC staff, faculty, and friends enjoyed a hot buffet breakfast in the Galen Center's Founders' Room at the Third Annual joint SRA/RFA Holiday Celebration on December 10, 2008.  Adjunct Professor Parmer Fuller (Thornton School of Music) and USC engineering student Catherine Ricafort performed several musical numbers including selections from "Miss Saigon."  Plans are underway for a fourth annual event in December 2009.

Homecoming 2008

Each fall, USC retirees meet under an Emeriti Center/SRA/RFA tent in Alumni Park to celebrate Homecoming.  Lucy Brown coordinated the 2008 Homecoming celebration.  Retirees brought cookies, coffee cakes, and other treats to share.  The Emeriti Center furnished drinks.  Everyone had a good time, and retirees' enthusiasm clearly rubbed off on the Trojans who defeated the University of Washington Huskies 56–0.

Day Trip to the Egyptian Theatre

On October 7, 2008, a group of USC retirees toured the restored Egyptian Theatre in the heart of Hollywood.  The Egyptian Theatre is the home of the American Cinematheque, dedicated to the screening of classic, documentary, and foreign films as well as short subjects.  While at the theatre, the group saw a screening of "Forever Hollywood," a feature-length film hosted by Sharon Stone with interviews of many Hollywood greats and many classic film clips.
