ACADEMIC AFFAIRS COMMITTEE

Chair: Amit Desai

E-mail: gpssacad@usc.edu

Description:
The Academic Affairs committee has two major responsibilities:
- To advocate on behalf of graduate students
- To offer exciting academic programming.

Each semester we try to offer academic events that are both engaging and fun. We aim to provide smaller scale events (ie - monthly book salons gpssbooks@gmail.com) as well as larger scale seminars and workshops that benefit all graduate students. This year we're looking forward to bridging departmental gaps by collaborating with members on the HSC campus, Social Programming Committee, and others. So contact gpssacad@usc.edu for more info! Come with ideas!

Meeting Times: Every 2nd & 4th Thursday in GFS107

Members: John Blackman (PPD), Sadie Moore (Anthropology), Wei Chen (Engineering)

Current Issues Being Addressed :

  • Academic Advocacy (Mentoring, Libraries, Journals, TA/RA Handbook)
  • Academic Programming (Book salons, Malpractice program, Technical communications, Student networking)

October Book Salon info:
"Wonder Boys" by Michael Chabbon. Date TBD.
The books are ready to be picked up in the GPSS Office. $10 deposit to get a book (first come first serve).
