Description: The GPSS LGBT Concerns Committee is composed of graduate and professional student leaders from various departments at the University of Southern California. The committee will strive to be an advocate for LGBT concerns and serve as a coordinator of services here on campus and in the larger community.
Goals:
To raise awareness of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender concerns and increase visibility of the LGBT community
on University of Southern campus thus resulting in a more conscious and safe environment for LGBT individuals.
We plan on accomplishing this mission by implementing an Allies Training (non-LGBT, but supportive of LGBT issues)
program to all students, staff and faculty at USC. The GPSS LGBT Concerns Committee will provide monthly
training at the main campus, health science campus, and pertinent USC affiliated locations. The training will be
open to anyone who is interested in learning in how to become more affirmative of LGBT issues. After the
one-hour training the participants can join the university-wide allies committee and proudly display their
allies sticker.
The committee meets once a month to discuss concerns or answer questions pertaining to the LGBT community.
In conjunction with the training we will provide monthly HIV/AIDS testing on campus. The monthly event will provide
an invaluable service to the university community by providing not only the HIV/AIDS test but to provide
information on safe sex practices and how individuals can protect themselves.
Monthly social events will continue with activities on campus or in the bigger community. The social will
provide graduate students an opportunity to network with colleagues from other departments. The events are open
to all graduate students and we welcome allies.
