Calendar for the 2012 Challenge

February 13, 2012: Project Deadline

Complete projects from all teams are due on February 13, 2012. Each project for the QuikSCience Challenge must be delivered to the USC Wrigley Institute by 5 p.m. on Monday, February 13. The projects must be submitted in two formats: (1) a paper document, preferably using double-sided printing, and (2) a digital presentation on CD or DVD. Please note: the digital presentation will involve a total of four disks.

February 2012: Judging

Projects will be judged the week of February 20, 2012. A panel of judges will evaluate projects based on their portfolios and creative presentations. Selected teams will be invited to either come to the USC campus or set up a Skype interview the week of February 27 to March 2, 2012. The judges will determine winners after the interviews are concluded.

April 5, 2012: Recognition Event

Winners of the 2012 QuikSCience Challenge will be announced on April 5, 2012. All teams are invited to a recognition event at the headquarters of Quiksilver, Inc. The event offers an opportunity to see all the projects entered in this year's competition. It includes food, a raffle and special prizes, and concludes with the announcement of the winning teams for the 2012 QuikSCience Challenge and the winners of the 2012 Ocean Leadership Awards.

June 2012: Trips to Catalina Island

First place winners:
A weeklong expedition scheduled from June 4, to June 11, 2012.

Second place winners:
An extended weekend scheduled from June 8, to June 11, 2012.

All QuikSCience teams:
Just for submitting a completed project by the project deadline, your team will be eligible for a day trip to Catalina Island during April, May or June 2012. We suggest finding a WEEKDAY the team can travel to San Pedro, CA for the day trip. We will take the USC boat to the Wrigley Marine Science Center on Catalina on MONDAY through THURSDAY.

We have limited space on the following Saturdays: April 7, April 14, May 12, May 19 and June 16. These dates are all on a first come, first scheduled basis. Turn in your project early and pick a date for your expedition!
