Jenny Hauser was a 2002 Knauss Sea Grant Fellow, coming to Washington D.C. from Monterey California, where she served in the U.S. Navy. As a Knauss Legislative Fellow, Jenny served as Legislative Assistant to Congressman Tom Allen of Maine. She handled all proposed legislation, hearings, meetings and constituent mail related to oceans and fisheries issues. She worked for Congressman Allen at ocean related meetings and conferences, and wrote talking points and testimony for press releases, floor statements and hearings. Representative Allen is a member of the House Oceans Caucus, and Jenny attended Caucus planning meetings and other events.

Jenny holds a graduate degree in Physical Oceanography from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, and an undergraduate degree from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. Among many other accomplishments, she has served as a guide at the Monterey Bay Aquarium and participated in the Vents Cruise on Juan de Fuca Ridge on the NOAA ship Discoverer.

The Knauss Fellowship was established in 1979 to provide a unique educational experience to students who have an interest in ocean, coastal and Great Lakes resources and in the national policy decision affecting those resources. The fellowship matches graduate students with hosts in executive, legislative, or an appropriate association/institution in Washington D.C. for a year long paid fellowship.
