About theTechnology Entrepreneurship Internship Program and our partner The Business Technology Center

Part of the mission of the USC Marshall Center for Technology Commercialization (CTC) is providing USC students with internship opportunities so that they can practice technology entrepreneurship. The Business Technology Center (BTC), a project of the Community Development Commission of the County of Los Angeles, is a business innovation center with the mission of assisting start-up and early stage technology firms to grow and prosper. The BTC is dedicated to the development of high technology firms through business management assistance, technical assistance, and the coordination of available financial resources. The BTC is presently focused on companies transferring and commercializing technologies from federal laboratories and universities.

The Technology Entrepreneurship Internship Program (TEIP) enables students to work directly with an early stage technology company and to experience a real-life business experience. Projects and internship opportunities with companies that are tenants or affiliates of the BTC are periodically listed in the TEIP home page. Qualified USC students interested in these opportunities can submit their resumes for consideration. The opportunities include both paid and unpaid internships.

Company Description
Status
Alelo Inc. We are a fast-growing start-up commercializing technology developed at USC's Information Sciences Institute that teaches foreign languages using interactive 3-D videogames. We booked $2.2M in revenue in 2006, and are profitable and cash-flow positive. And this was our first full year of operations.

Our field is very young, and is creating many emerging, promising technologies, products and companies. Sooner or later there will be industry consolidation, and we think that it's not too soon for us to start acquiring the right targets.

We seek an intern to find and research potential acquisition targets. This is an iterative process that starts with 10,000-feet ideas and gets refined into a viable strategy to a large extent as a consequence of the targets that we find. Once done, the analysis will become a formal business plan which we'll use to raise the right funds.

Requirements: A very analytical mind, perhaps coming from corporate strategy or the M&A side of investment banking. A technical background is very desirable but not mandatory. Negotiate stipend.
