Founded in 1901, Childrens Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) began with four beds and served 14 patients in its first year. Today, the 314-bed nonprofit hospital receives 300,000 visits from patients ranging in age from newborn to 18. Through its multidisciplinary leadership in pediatric and adolescent medicine, CHLA has become a pioneer in "family-centered care," and is ranked among the top five pediatric facilities in the nation. In addition, CHLA operates an internationally noted research program which has made significant contribution to children's health care worldwide.
