Ronnie C. Chan

Chairman, Hang Lung Group and
Trustee, University of Southern California

Ronnie C. Chan is the Chairman of the Hang Lung Group of Hong Kong. Incorporated in 1960 and publicly listed in 1972, the Group comprises three publicly traded companies - Hang Lung Group Limited, Hang Lung Properties Limited and Grand Hotel Holdings Limited. Both Hang Lung Group and Hang Lung Properties are constituent stocks of the Hang Seng Stock Index.

Mr. Chan co-founded the Morningside group which together with its associates owns and manages privately-held companies focusing on manufacturing, advertising and media in mainland China, developmental capital investments in Southeast Asia, distribution and manufacturing in Europe, and service industries and high tech investments in North America. Mr. Chan serves on the Board of Directors of Standard Chartered PLC and is a former director of Motorola Inc.

In Hong Kong and the mainland of China, Mr. Chan is Chairman of the Hong Kong-United States Business Council; Chairman of the Executive Committees of the One Country Two Systems Research Institute and of the Better Hong Kong Foundation; a Vice President of the Hong Kong Real Estate Developers Association; and a board member of the China Development Research Foundation of the State Council of the People?s Republic of China. He also chairs the China Heritage Fund, which restores cultural relics in China.

Elsewhere, Mr. Chan is Chairman of the Asia Business Council; a Vice Chairman of the Board of the Asia Society and Chairman of its Hong Kong Center; a Governor of the East-West Center; a Director of the Pacific Council on International Policy; a Trustee of the Eisenhower Exchange Fellowships and of the African-Asian Society. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations; of the Advisory Board of the Center for Strategic and International Studies (both the one in Washington, D.C. and the unrelated namesake in Jakarta); and a former member of the Foundation Board of the World Economic Forum.

Mr. Chan is involved in many educational endeavors. He is a Council member of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology; a Trustee of the University of Southern California; and a Governing Board member of the Indian School of Business. He serves on the International Advisory Council of the Institute for International Studies at Stanford University, The President?s Council on International Activities at Yale University, and the International Advisory Board of the Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies at Waseda University.

Mr. Chan is a frequent speaker at international conferences and has published numerous articles in the likes of International Herald Tribune, Financial Times, Newsweek, Fortune, Asian Wall Street Journal, Far Eastern Economic Review and Japan Times. Mr. Chan holds an MBA from the University of Southern California. He is 52 years of age and resides in Hong Kong with his wife. They have two sons in university.
