Dr. Kang is the Chairman of The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Korea Committee and immediate past chairman of the Sejong foundation.
The Sejong Institute is an independent research institute focusing on unification issues in order to assist in achieving the peaceful reunification of North and South Korea. The Institute has grown to represent Korea as a leading private research institute. Sejong contributes to the academic field, policy circles, and the government through its productive research activities. The Sejong Foundation supports the Institute's independent and creative research activities.
Dr. Kang has served the Republic of Korea in numerous important roles, such as: Prime Minister, member of the 13th National Assembly, President of the National Red Cross (which was the principal vehicle for negotiations between South and North Korea), Ambassador to Great Britain, the Vatican, and Ireland, and Chancellor of the Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Security. All of these responsibilities were undertaken after Dr. Kang retired from an illustrious military career in 1961 with the rank of Lieutenant General and his final post being that of the Superintendent of the Korean Military Academy.
Dr. Kang earned a MA in international politics and a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Southern California
