October 21, 2004; 8:30 A.M.-3:30 P.M.
The Provost’s Invitational Retreat on Health was held on Thursday, October 21, 2004 at the Davidson Conference Center located on USC’s University Park Campus. More than 100 faculty, researchers, students, and administrators attended.
Organized by the USC Health Collaborative, the objectives of this special retreat were to:
- Learn about current interdisciplinary activities at USC in education, research and outreach related to health and the social sciences
- Develop knowledge of and connections with others interested in multidisciplinary research, training, and collaboration
- Discuss avenues for stimulating cross-disciplinary health endeavors.
- Expand awareness of USC’s leadership, scope and expertise in addressing health issues facing society now, and into the future.
The retreat format included more than 30 informational presentations, provocative panel discussions, and interactive concurrent sessions organized around four broad health theme areas: Information, Media & Health; Reducing Health Disparities; Health Financing, Policy & Management; and Healthy Communities, Health Lifestyles.
Participants were drawn from throughout the university community, providing a unique opportunity for sharing information, and underscoring the extensive network of interdisciplinary collaboration already underway. On-site surveys and lively dialogue regarding strategies and initiatives for enhancing multidisciplinary relationships across the university will be instrumental in shaping future Health Collaborative activities.
