Kevin Starr

Kevin Starr is the State Librarian of California, and University Professor at the University of Southern California. He received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of San Francisco (1962); Master of Arts, Harvard University (1965); Doctor of Philosophy, Harvard University (1969); Master of Library Science, University of California, Berkeley (1974). He is the author of a five-volume social and cultural history of California, Americans and the California Dream, published by Oxford University Press. The sixth volume, Embattled Dreams: California in War and Peace, 1940-1950 will be published in 2002. He has been contributing editor, Los Angeles Times (1994- present); daily columnist, San Francisco Examiner, 1977-1983; Rome/Vatican correspondent, Hearst Newspapers, 1978. He is presently a member of the Board of Trustees of the Institute for Advanced Catholic Studies.
