Announcement

We are pleased to announce that two new interdisciplinary PhD training programs in Genetic, Molecular and Cellular Biology (GMCB) and in Systems Biology and Disease (SBD) have been approved by the University starting in the Fall of 2005. These programs were designed by faculty from many of the basic science departments at USC to address the fact that major advances in the biological and biomedical sciences frequently involve the integration of ideas and technology from diverse disciplines. Both interdisciplinary programs will expose and train students in a broader and more flexible manner than provided by the traditional departmental programs and will better prepare them for careers in modern biomedical research. Breadth of interests and training are major features of these interdisciplinary programs that will combine the wide and varied research strengths available in the faculty of the existing schools and departments at USC.
